EthBoulder Privacy

Date of last revision: December 12, 2025
Effective: December 12, 2025

EthBoulder™ is a decentralized, community-governed Ethereum event. We believe privacy is a prerequisite for credible coordination, creative expression, and open participation. This Privacy Policy outlines how we think about data, what we collect (and don’t), and the principles that guide our decisions.

Our Privacy Policy

EthBoulder is built by and for the Ethereum community. That means:

  • We minimize data collection
  • We do not sell personal data
  • We avoid surveillance-based tooling
  • We prioritize user agency and consent
  • We design for optionality, not obligation

Where possible, we favor open standards, self-sovereign identity, and privacy-preserving approaches over centralized data extraction.

What Information We Collect

We aim to collect as little information as possible to operate the event and its related services.

Depending on how you interact with EthBoulder, we may collect:

1. Information You Voluntarily Provide

This may include:

  • Email address (e.g., newsletter signups, announcements)
  • Name or alias (e.g., speaker submissions, community forms)
  • Wallet address (if you choose to connect one)
  • Social links or profile information you explicitly submit

Providing this information is always optional unless required for a specific activity (e.g., speaking, volunteering).

2. Event Participation Information

If you attend EthBoulder or participate in associated activities, we may collect:

  • Ticket or RSVP confirmations
  • Schedule selections
  • Session submissions or feedback
  • Public contributions made during the event (e.g., talks, workshops, open forums)

Much of this information may be intentionally public, especially in open-source or community contexts.

3. Technical & Usage Data (Minimal)

Like most websites, ethboulder.xyz may automatically collect limited technical data such as:

  • Browser type
  • Device type
  • Approximate location (non-precise)
  • Pages visited

We do not use invasive tracking, fingerprinting, or cross-site behavioral profiling.

Where analytics are used, we favor privacy-respecting tools and aggregate insights over individual tracking.

What We Do Not Do

We do not:

  • Sell personal data
  • Run third-party ad networks
  • Track users across unrelated websites
  • Require real-world identity
  • Require wallets unless explicitly relevant
  • Collect unnecessary personal attributes

Wallets, Web3, and Onchain Activity

If you choose to connect a wallet or interact with onchain components related to EthBoulder:

  • Wallet addresses are public by nature
  • Onchain interactions are governed by their respective networks
  • We do not control blockchain data once published
  • Participation is optional and opt-in

We encourage participants to understand the public and permanent nature of blockchain transactions before engaging.

Third-Party Services

EthBoulder may use third-party tools for:

  • Ticketing
  • Forms
  • Scheduling
  • Communications
  • Infrastructure hosting

These services have their own privacy policies. We aim to select partners aligned with Ethereum values and privacy-conscious practices, but we encourage you to review their policies directly.

Media, Photography, and Recording

EthBoulder is a public event. By attending, you acknowledge that:

  • Photos, video, or audio recordings may occur
  • Some sessions may be recorded or livestreamed
  • Public-facing documentation may be shared openly

We strive to clearly mark recorded areas and respect speaker and participant preferences whenever possible.

Data Retention

We retain data only for as long as it is reasonably necessary to:

  • Operate the event
  • Communicate with participants
  • Maintain community continuity
  • Comply with applicable obligations

We periodically review and delete data that is no longer needed.

Your Choices & Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access your data
  • Request correction or deletion
  • Withdraw consent
  • Opt out of communications

You can exercise these rights by contacting us directly.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. However, no system is perfectly secure. We encourage participants to practice good digital hygiene and avoid sharing sensitive information unnecessarily.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may evolve as EthBoulder grows. Updates will be posted on this page, with the date clearly noted.
